NORTH WALES 5x30 OUTDOOR CHALLENGE

One of the key targets within the Welsh Assembly Government strategy for Sport and physical activity - " Climbing Higher", is to encourage mass participation in sport and physical activity and particularly 5 x 30 minutes of exercise a week. In order to achieve an increase in the proportion of people taking moderate physical activity from 30% up to 50% over the next 20 years, it will require 20,000 more people across Wales reaching and sustaining this level of activity.

As a North Wales region, the 6 Local Authorities and the Sports Council for Wales have worked collaboratively to develop the North Wales Outdoor Challenge. Within the next 12 months each Authority will develop 5 signposted routes, targeted within specific areas and at designated groups. Each signposted route will be for an average duration of 30 minutes, whether that be a cycle trail on road/off road, an orienteering course, walking route, jog trail etc.

We have also developed three smaller regional programmes as part of the North Wales Outdoor Challenge. These are joint authority projects in the following areas, which have been developed to suit the needs of the more local population.

Flintshire & Wrexham Get Active! Challenge
Conwy & Denbighshire Cycling Challenge
Gwynedd & the Isle of Anglesey 5k Menai Challenge
